The California Interscholastic Federation, Oakland Section, is a nonprofit corporation organized to direct and control both boys and girls athletics in the secondary schools within the Section. One of the smaller of the 10 CIF sections, the Oakland Section has a rich and well-known history, producing nationally elite student-athletes and teams since its inception in 1940.

The state constitution establishes the overall structure, while the bylaws cover specific areas like eligibility requirements, school regulations, and approved sports. Key bylaws address student eligibility, transfers, general rules, outside competition, and awards.

Team

This sportsmanship toolkit, along with the resources, training, and supporting documents available in the toolkit, are provided to CIF member schools as a foundation from which to build their schools' sportsmanship program.

CIF Resources

The NFHS is the national leader and advocate for high school sports and activities in the United States. They write playing rules, conduct research, offer guidance, provide education and celebrate successes. Their goal is to ensure that all students have the opportunity to Play, Perform and Compete Together in high school sports and activities.

The California Interscholastic Federation is proud to share resources from Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). The Mountain View, Calif.-based national non-profit is developing "Better Athletes, Better People" by working to provide all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience.

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has selected the Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federations (NASEF) as the Official Esports Provider of the CIF Esports Initiative. NASEF shares the core values and mission of CIF regarding education-based opportunities for the students of California, with our model that connects gameplay and competition to meaningful education around life and career skills.

The CSADA promotes the profession of Athletic Director through fostering a higher standard of professional proficiency, establishing closer working relationships among state and national groups, providing opportunities for the continuing study and development of best practices, and encouraging goodwill and fellowship in Athletic Administration.
